The Social Security Commission of Namibia donated N$10 million towards the construction of a maternal shelter at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region. Women in Northern Namibia regions, especially those living in remote areas are forced to travel long distances to health facilities before they give birth. Due to the absence of maternal facilities or waiting homes they are forced to erect makeshift structures while some sleep in open spaces under trees near hospitals for their maternal care.
