Some of the Safety and Security Ministry’s capital projects in the Zambezi region have been put on hold. The projects were planned for completion during the previous and current financial years and the delay is reportedly caused by financial constraints. That was conveyed to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security, by Acting Police Commander Abner Axas at Katima Mulilo on Monday. Deputy Commissioner Axas said the projects included the Greenwell Matongo Class-C Police Station at Katima Mulilo, which was earlier planned. He said the Class-A Police Station was down-graded to Class-C, because of a shortage of finances. So far, documentation has been completed for the fencing off of the police stations. Other buildings put on hold are: the Impalila Police Station, Kamenga, Chinchimani and Nova Base as well as the upgrading of the Katima Mulilo Police Station. The Sangwali Police Post was supposed to have been completed three-years ago, but is still under construction, due to sub-standard and unfinished work by the contractor. Three construction companies are working on the same building, expected to be completed soon. The Standing Committee was unhappy that certain police stations had to be down-graded from Class A to C.
