The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Peya Mushelenga has finally approved the application of Sophia Mundjembwe as the new Hompa of the vaShambyu tribe in Kavango East. This brings to rest the succession battle between the Mwengere and Mukwahepo clans, which have fiercely been contesting the position for one of their own to take over the royal reins. Mushelenga in a letter addressed to the chairperson of the vaShambyu Chief Council, states that he approved the application after having considered all the facts presented to him and ensuring that it was in accordance with the provisions of the Traditional Authorities Act. Mundjembwe replaces, Hompa Angelina Matumbo Ribebe, who died in June 2015. It was celebrations at the Royal Palace as the vaShambyu subjects received the news.
