Stellenbosch University in South Africa will confer an honorary Doctorate Degree on retired Namibian politician, Dirk Mudge. The university says it honours Mudge for his role in facilitating the transition of colonial South West Africa to democratic Namibia. Mudge, a founder of the DTA of Nambia – is one of the selected business and political leaders to be bestowed with the honorary degrees. A statement from the Henk Mudge Foundation said the university wrote that Mudge could arguably be considered one of the main architects of Namibia. It says Mudge, with exceptional visionary, strategic and transformational leadership, not only served as peace broker, but also played a significant role in facilitating reconciliation. The statement explains that Mudge has proven himself an exceptional leader of transformation, who steered Namibia towards independence and paved the way for South Africa’s transition. Mudge graduated from Stellenbosch University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1947. The conferment is expected to take place between December and March 2017.
