The SWAPO Party has expressed disappointment about reports that Kids of the Liberation Struggle blocked the national road, vandalised property and damaged police vehicles. Its Secretary-General, Nangolo Mbumba, says the party will not tolerate such behaviour from the group. Nampa reports that about 300 young people erected tents on the Windhoek-Okahandja road on Monday to attract public attention to their demands for Government jobs. The struggle kids have been demanding jobs from Government since 2009, but some received employment, while efforts are underway to absorb the rest in ministries and State-owned enterprises. About 150 are currently receiving State-sponsored training in various fields in the Otjozondjupa and Omaheke regions. Mbumba, who described as unfortunate and unruly the behaviour of the group, said it came at a time when the government was busy relocating them to Farm Berg Aukas, where they could be trained for possible employment. He said government’s efforts were being frustrated by some members of the group who have been rejecting offers and threatening those who want to go for training. He warned that those found to be instigating others to reject the Government programmes and encourage violence would face the full wrath of the law. More than 270 struggle kids are at Farm Berg Aukas where they are being trained in various trades.
