Approximately 200 students from various tertiary institutions refused to hand over their grievances in the form of a petition to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Alfred Van Kent. They demand to see the Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Itah Kandjii-Murangi. The students earlier this week called for the resignation of the Education Minister should she fail to pay the financial assistance fund’s annual budget allocation in full. They demand that Kandjii-Murangi force Treasury to release roughly N$730 million owed to Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) to allow the fund to pay its dues. They fund received N$670 million instead of N$1,4 billion for this financial year, allowing NSFAF to only settle last year’s backlog. NSFAF now owes students N$17 000 from a total refund amount of N$21 600.
