SWANU President Tangeni Iijambo has warned that further delays and uncertainty surrounding the Second Land Conference will only fuel anger among the landless. He told Nampa news agency that he is dismayed at the fact that no tentative date was set for the holding of the conference. Iijambo said his party consistently and persistently advocated for the return of ancestral land from the advantaged white minority. He said people deprived of the land will continue to drown in abject poverty and inequality. Iijambo explained that Namibians may carve a unique way out of the land debacle, which is unique for their country. He argued that neither South Africa’s land reform policy of expropriation without compensation, nor Zimbabwe’s expropriation by invasion, will be suitable for Namibia. Iijambo said formerly disadvantaged Namibians had been settled in unfertile areas with poor rainfall. The Prime Minister’s Office is organising the Second Land Conference, which would be held this year. The Conference was first postponed in September last year, due to lack of proper consultation.
