The Legal Assistance Center, LAC, has raised concern with the Namibia Citizenship Amendment Bill which in it’s current form provides only for the citizenship of children born to foreign parents with permanent residence. LAC Director Tony Hancox stresses that the amendment goes against the landmark Supreme Court ruling of June, which ordered that a child born in Namibia to non-Namibian parents who meet the legal test of being ordinarily resident in the country is entitled to Namibian citizenship by birth.
