Economic Planning Minister Tom Alweendo says Namibia’s economy needs to grow at a higher level and be more inclusive. Alwendo says there is also a need to create more employment opportunities, especially for young people. He says income generated from the country’s economy needs to be shared on a more equitable basis among members of society. The country also needs to pay aprticular attention to the quality of education system where the state’s focus is on innovation. Alweendo who was speaking at Opuwo in the Kunene region during regional consultations on the envisaged Fifth National Development Plan, NDP5. He pointed out that the implementation of the plan was more effective when citizens had a fair share of giving their inputs. The minister stated that their inputs were vital as they would enable them to become the implementers of the plan. He said the Government wanted to ensure that NDP5 was responsive to the long term challenges facing the nation and that it was properly integrated into the country’s economic, social and environmental objectives to deliver sustainable development. Alweendo said the NPD5 focus should not be about how perfect the plan is, but rather how implementable it is.
