According to the African Miss University of the World’s website, the pageant aims to crown the next continental queen of students. Namibian model Pakkala Ashipala says she was unfortunate to be lured to Benin, where she underwent great hardships. Ashipala and one other Namibian were selected as qualifiers for the African Miss University of the World pageant, said to have been organised by Cameroonians in Benin. The event promises the winner a one-year full scholarship, US$5 000, an academic internship around the world, a new and beautiful car and purchase coupons.
