A five-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were found dead near Tses in the //Kharas Region after they, together with three other people, allegedly embarked on a journey on foot on 31 December and never reached their destination. The Namibian Police Force Detective Chief Inspector, Jesaias Higoam told NAMPA on Saturday that the deceased, Lentina Kooper and Laurintius Tobias were found dead on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Higoam explained that the two children, together with a 15-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy and a 50-year-old woman, allegedly embarked on a journey on foot from Tses to farm Grysholde, some 40 Kilometres northeast of Tses on 31 December. “When the family realised that the people did not arrive at the farm on the evening of 1 January they informed the local police and the following day the police, Special Reserve Force, the village council and the community started searching the direction they used,” he said. The 50-year-old woman, Higoam said was the first to be found some 30 kilometres near Tses and was exhausted and she was taken to the Tses clinic where she was later transferred to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital. On Thursday, the three children were found together under a tree, including the five-year-old who died. The search, however, continued on Friday and on Saturday morning the body of the 10-year-old was found decomposed, said Higoam. The Chief Inspector said the two children were on Friday discharged while the 50-year-old woman was still in the hospital. Higoam said the police suspect that the children died because of thirst and the heat. Their next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue. -NAMPA
