Disaster struck on Thursday at about 13h30 while two municipal workers were fixing a pump at the Walvis Bay sewage pond. Matias Amadhila (41) became unconscious and fell into the water. His colleague called for help from private company workers who came to assist. In the process, one of the contracted workers, Willem Neshuku (25), hit his head on the stairs and fell into the water. Both were declared dead on the scene by Emed medical personnel. The bodies were transported to Walvis Bay Police mortuary for post-mortem. The next of kin of both were informed and investigations continue.
