The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region reported two robbery incidents where a total of N$47 100 was stolen at Oshakati between Friday and Saturday. Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of NamPol’s Public Relations Unit in the region confirmed to NAMPA on Sunday that the robberies took place at two separate places in the Oshakati area. Aiyambo pointed out that the first incident occurred near Othingo village along the Oshakati-Okahao main road, where a Chinese contractor at the Okahao District Hospital in the Omusati Region was robbed of his N$37 500 at around 18h00 on Friday. He was allegedly robbed of his money by some six men who jumped from a Toyota Corolla. According to Aiyambo, the Chinese contractor, identified as Xu Haizhen, stopped and parked his vehicle along the said road to relief himself at the time the six suspects attacked him. “Four of them (suspects) grabbed him (victim), while two others went into his parked car and took the bag that contained the money,” Aiyambo narrated. He added that the suspects also took the victim’s car keys and fled from the scene, leaving him stranded in the field before the Police were called in and towed his vehicle to the Oshakati NamPol station afterwards. In the second incident, a petrol attendant by the name Hilma Amundanga, Aiyambo said, was allegedly robbed of N$9 600 at the Total Service Station in Oshakati West around 12h30 by an unknown man. “It is alleged that the suspect came out of a white sedan car, grabbed the money which was in a plastic bag, jumped back into the same car he came from and drove off,” Aiyambo stated. He indicated that NamPol officer confiscated the same car and towed it to the Oshakati Police station after it was later found locked and abandoned at the Oneshila informal settlement in the Oshakati East on the same day. The suspects in both robberies remain at large and the money stolen was not recovered as of Sunday. Police investigations into both matters continue. -NAMPA
