On Wednesday , Minister of Sports, Youth and National Service appointed five new members of the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Board. The term of the new board starts on the 5th of November and will last for three years. The five new board members will bring along vast experience in areas of medicine, financial management, information technology, law and public management. They are Dr Bernard Haufiku as chairman, Saima Nghihalwa, Trevor Mills, Maria Pogisho and Josef Shikongo – better known as Joe Archer – in boxing circles. “I wish to state that you have a difficult task ahead of you to restore the public’s confidence, also reviewing the act. I want to seriously look into the relationship between boxers , promoters and the board in order to create a good environment” Uutoni said. Uutoni also urged the new members to work towards the full realisation of the Namibia Sports Commission’s strategic plan, as well as to end infighting within the boxing sector.
