A Veteran’s Trust Fund to help disabled former PLAN combatants has been established. Some veterans came back home disabled after sustaining injuries during the liberation war, while others suffered from physical and mental health conditions. The trust was established to help the former fighters who are unable to work for themselves. Emphasis will also be placed on former commanders and combatants who got no form of formal employment after independence, widows and children of the liberation struggle. PLAN fighters who went on retirement less than 10 years of work after independence will also benefit from the trust. Founder of the trust, Nkrumah Mushelenga expressed the need for a long-term plan to meet Government halfway in assisting the veterans. The retired civil servant said the trust is a credible plan to fulfil those pre-liberation promises that veterans will have a secured future. The trust is named after the first SWAPO Defence Secretary, Peter Eneas Nanyemba, also known as Ndilimani. Currently, veterans who wish to be members of the trust are being registered.
