The Walvis Bay police are investigating two cases of concealment of birth after the remains of a baby boy and girl were discovered in separate incidents at the harbour town this week. A crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Saturday said the remains of a 28-week-old male foetus and a full-term baby girl were discovered Monday and Wednesday respectively. In the first incident, a member of the public searching through the rubbish discovered the male foetus wrapped in a plastic bag around 12h00. “She alerted her friends who then informed the police,” the report said. The body was taken to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary. No arrest was made and police investigations continue. In the other incident, a worker at the Walvis Bay dump site discovered the body of a newborn baby girl amongst the rubbish. The woman alerted her colleagues and the police were contacted. The baby was certified dead at a hospital in Walvis Bay and the remains taken to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary. No suspects have been identified at this stage.
