A 31-year-old police officer allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend in Walvis Bay on Thursday. The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu in a crime report issued on Friday said the officer, who was on duty, allegedly shot the 22-year-old woman in the chest and twice in the arms with a service pistol. The incident occurred around 16h20 in Kuisebmond and the suspect handed himself over to the police. The victim was taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital in a critical but stable condition but was later transferred to a Windhoek hospital for further treatment. According to the police, the victim had registered a case of assault by threatening against the suspect at the Tutaleni Police Station earlier on Thursday. The suspect will make his first court appearance on Monday. -NAMPA
