Justice Herman Oosthuizen of the Windhoek High Court has ordered the Namibian Police to, with immediate effect, take AR activist Dimbulukeni Nauyoma to Rhino Park Hospital for medical attention. This comes after police have refused to release Nauyoma, nor take him to the hospital. Nauyoma, an activist with the AR Movement was detained at the Wanaheda Police Station on Friday, after he was arrested at Okuryangava informal settlement. The movement and community locked horns with members of the Windhoek City Police, over the demolishing of an illegal shack, belonging to a homeless woman. The community argues that police did not serve the required notice for the shack dweller to vacate, nor did they present her with a court order to evict the site. Nauyoma’s arrest has since angered community members who demonstrated in front of the Wanahenda Police Station. They accused the police of lacking good judgement and not acting in the interest of the poor. Allegations are that a man connected to a member of the force orchestrated the woman’s removal from the plot, as she refused to be intimate with him. Nauyoma has since been charged with instigating a crime, and unlawful occupation of land.
