The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and a prominent Windhoek High School student have rendered support to a school in Windhoek’s Okahandja Park. NUST has pledged to donate food and clothes to learners at the Mount View High School for the next 12 months, in addition to training teachers and tutoring learners in different subjects. Windhoek Junior Mayor Rochelle Beukes, assisted by her school, will provide the school with some mobile structures to use as classrooms for the learners. Beukes urged learners to work hard, shape their destinies and make a difference in their communities. Mount View High School’s hard work and determination to succeed brought different stakeholders on board to partner with the school. The school is situated in Okahandja Park, and has enrolled more than 400learners; the majority being students other schools turned away. Lack of proper classrooms and lessons being given in tents did not prevent the school from excelling in national examinations. The school ranked 14th out of 33 schools in the Khomas Region in last year’s Grade 10 examination. Principal Brian Ndabeni expressed delight at the assistance NUST and Beukes have rendered to the school.
