The Windhoek City Council and the Otjiwarongo Municipality have renewed their Memorandum of Cooperation agreement for the next five years. The agreement, which dates back 2003, defines joint programmes and projects that the two local authorities will carry out. The areas include human resource development and capacity building, local economic development and tourism promotion, strategic management and organisational re-engineering, HIV/AIDS prevention strategies and employee wellness program. Windhoek Mayor Muesee Kazapua has encouraged partners to ensure the cooperation remains a working partnership, with action plans and practical implementation of projects that can translate into poverty eradication and social well-being of their communities. Kazapua says it is important to realise that wealth or poverty of Namibia do not rest in its economic resources, nor its natural resources, but on the mental attitude of citizens. On his part, Otjiwarongo Mayor Bennes Haimbodi welcomed the renewal, stressing that it is a move in the right direction. He called on role players, including Councillors and technocrats, to be pro-active in implementing the twinning agreement to achieve its objectives.
