Windhoek residents staged a peaceful demonstration against the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in this month’s Presidential and National Assembly Election, in Windhoek. In an interview with NBC News, one of the organisers, Oscar Mwandingi said the march is open to all people from different political parties who are not in support of the use of EVMs. He said they are against the use of EVMs due to the recent reports on four EVMs that were loaned to SWAPO by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in 2017 that went missing and also on the effectiveness and the credibility of these devices. Mwandingi said they are proposing for the old ballot paper voting system as it eliminates doubt over results. The demonstration was organised by the office of the independent presidential candidate Dr Panduleni Itula.
