A woman allegedly strangled her two-year-old daughter to death and buried her in a shallow grave at Mangetti Dune in the Otjozondjupa Region last Wednesday. The weekly crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Monday said the deceased was identified as Selma Liwanga. The 33-year-old suspect allegedly pretended that her daughter was missing before the girl’s body was discovered buried in the dunes. The woman was arrested and charged with murder. Meanwhile, a nanny allegedly poured hot water on a two-year-old boy who was under her care on Friday around 08h00 in Windhoek. The boy was severely injured. The crime report said the nanny was arrested but was released due to a lack of evidence. Investigations into the matter continue. Meanwhile, a three-month-old baby died on Saturday at Okatjetje village at Opuwo in the Kunene Region. The baby’s mother discovered that the baby had died when she woke up around midnight to breastfeed the child. The cause of death is not yet known and a post-mortem will be conducted. NamPol also recorded two cases of rape in the Omaheke and Erongo regions over the past weekend. A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 19-year-old boy while she was asleep in the Ovinjuru area at Epukiro in the Omaheke Region on Friday around 21h00. According to NamPol, the girl screamed and ran to her aunt, who then alerted the police. The suspect was arrested and police investigations into the matter continue. In the Erongo Region at Karibib, an 18-year-old was raped by two men on Sunday around 03h00. The suspects, aged 21 and 37, allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent while escorting her home from a bar. Both suspects were arrested and were expected to appear in the Karibib Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
