Works and Transport Minister Alpheus !Naruseb has appealed for behaviour change to stop deaths and injuries on national roads. !Naruseb believes that most motor vehicle accidents claiming lives daily are avoidable. The minister was unhappy with the weekends’ tragic accidents, among them the Rehoboth-Kalkrand disaster that claimed six lives. !Naruseb officially opened the Nkurenkuru Namibia Traffic information system – NaTis – service centre on Monday. The centre will provide vehicle licensing and registration and learners’ driving license testing. The vehicle testing and driver’s testing services will still be conducted at Rundu, but the Roads Authority – RA promised to introduce one when premises are available. The centre comes as a relief to residents who had to travel about 300 kilometres to and from Rundu. The RA Chief Executive Officer, Conrad Lutombi, says the authority was committed to bringing NaTIS services to all corners of Namibia. On her part, Kavango West Governor Sirkka Ausiku welcomed the development, noting that she was happy with the road network. Ausiku wanted to see more feeder roads constructed in the predominantly rural region. She said residents depend on agriculture and, therefore, need feeder roads to transport their products and livestock to the markets.
